To Go Organic....Or Not To Go Organic

So eating organic foods has become somewhat of fad. Yet, the thing about eating organically is that not EVERYTHING has to be organic. My mom is an absolute organic freak! Open up our fridge and you will find organic mayonnaise, organic ketchup, organic mustard, organic lettuce, organic deli meat.....yes the list goes on an on. Now, this isn't a bad thing...wanting to put healthy foods in our body, but you will definitely spend a lot more money buying organic rather than non organic. If you do a little research you will find that there are certain fruits and vegetables that you should buy organic, and certain fruits and vegetables that you don't need to necessarily buy organic. This is because on some of them they really don't need to use pesticides on so its pointless to buy them organic. So to all my healthy buyers out there......do you think its worth it to spend a little extra on organic? Or is it all just a bunch of trash?

The Deal With Detox Diets

So detox diets seem to be all the rage lately. They sound like they should be good for you.....cleaning toxins out of your system and losing weight along the way, but you usually end up gaining it back after the diet anyways. These detoxes seem completely pointless to me. Why go through the trouble of eating/drinking a limited amount of foods and liquids for a short amount of time, when they have no positive effect in the long run. If you want to be healthier, there are 2 simple rules to follow. Eat healthy and exercise. Cut out over-processed foods, stick to fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lots of water. You will also feel better if you eat healthier. When on detox diets your body is going to feel awful and extremely weak. You are not getting any of the necessary nutrition your body needs. So in the end, detox diets are just a short cut to losing weight that won't stay away. Plus, why famish yourself with a detox when you could just nourish your body with the right foods?

All About Avocados

Also know as the alligator pear, avocados are one of the healthiest foods for you! They are a great source of fiber, potassium and contain more than 75% of your daily value of Vitamin C. They may be one of the fattest fruits too, but in a good way! Avocados are extremely good for your heart. Not only is this pear-shaped fruit good for you, but it is super tasty as well. I love to add avocado to a BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) sandwich; it adds some extra flavor and nutrition to a somewhat unhealthy lunch. You can put them in pastas, soups, pies, pizzas, paninis, or just eat them by themselves! They make for great spreads, and also one of the best dips.....guacamole. Besides being used to satisfy your appetite, they can satisfy your skin's health as well. These fruits make for exceptionally great moisturizers. For a homemade face mask, mix up some avocados with components such as honey, bananas, lemons, or egg yolks. Hopefully all these facts have inspired you to go out and buy some avocados, whether it be to smear on some toast, or your face!
